Using widgets

Widgets can be awesome. Most display live-updated information; provide functionality without the need to open an app, and add a nice visual break-up to a monotonous grid of icons.

It’s important to pick your widgets carefully. Many widgets, such as weather widgets, are heavy on both animation and live-updates. Both of these features can drain battery. Having several such widgets across multiple home screens can seriously drain battery life. Make sure you only use what you find useful.

Adding widgets

There are two ways to add widgets (though it can vary depending on manufacturer cusomtizations).

The main way is to go in to your applications menu and find the Widgets tab at the top of the screen.

Find any widget and tap and hold. You should be taken to a home screen. Drop the widget wherever you want.

To move to another screen, depending on your UI, either drag the widget to the side of the display or tilt the device horizontally.

How to resize a widget

Most resizable widgets have a pre-set limit and cannot get larger or smaller than a specific size. Widget size ranges from that of a single icon to an entire home screen.

Tap and hold the widget and then drop it back in place. A colored border should appear, along with tabs situated around the sides of the widget.

Tap and hold any of these colored tabs and drag out or inwards.

Alternatively, tap the menu button and hit “Edit” before following the above instructions.

Not all widgets can be resized. Some come in a variety of preset sizes. If you cannot resize your widget try looking through your widget tab in the applications menu for multiple versions.
