I recently tested Visible’s popular unlimited plan for one month. Visible, an MVNO utilizing Verizon’s network, offers three straightforward plans: the base Visible plan, Visible+ plan with more perks, and loaded Visible+ Pro plan. All Visible plans provide unlimited data, talk, and text at competitive prices. Given the simplicity and potential savings, I had to know: is Visible worth it?

For me, the answer is yes. Based on my testing, the Visible plan is a strong contender for those seeking a low-cost unlimited plan with extensive coverage, particularly in urban and suburban areas. Visible impressed me with its service quality; data speeds were consistently reliable, and the app made managing my account hassle-free.

Let’s dive into our Visible review and my personal experience with its $25 unlimited plan to see if it's the right choice for you.

How I tested Visible's wireless service

Visible Wireless logo

I signed up for Visible's basic unlimited plan and spent one month intentionally testing its service to thoroughly evaluate its performance in everyday scenarios.

The features I tested included the following:

  • Texting and sending photos both urban and rural locations
  • Calling and FaceTiming friends in populated and remote locations
  • Making Zoom and Google Meet video calls
  • Streaming music in my car while connected to my phone (Apple CarPlay)
  • Streaming video via Netflix and YouTube from my phone
  • Playing Apple Arcade games
  • Downloading cloud-based files to my phone
  • Using the mobile hotspot in two separate locations for 1 hour each
  • Interacting with Visible's online-only customer service
  • Managing my plan via the Visible app

The bottom line

Overall, Visible surprised me with how solid its service was despite being a very basic unlimited plan. Even though I opted for the plan without premium data (read: guaranteed high speeds), I never experienced a significant slowdown despite doing some pretty data-intensive activities. Managing my plan was a breeze, and using customer support was shockingly frustration-free.

Especially given that Visible is around half the price (or less) than any major carrier plan—including the single-line Verizon plan I currently subscribe to—I would seriously recommend considering a switch if Verizon's network is strong in your area. I will be exploring just that.

What plans does Visible offer?

Visible offers three unlimited plans: the base Visible plan, an upgraded Visible+ plan, and the premium Visible+ Pro plan.

Unlimited MX/CA talk/text
$25/month View Plan
Visible+ Unlimited 10Mbps hotspot

$35/month View Plan
Visible+ Pro Unlimited 15Mbps hotspot
4K UHD video streaming
Unlimited MX/CA talk/text/data
2 monthly Global Passes
Global calling + texting
$45/month View Plan

I tested the Visible plan, which is priced at $25/month and includes unlimited talk, text, and data. Data speeds may be deprioritized during times of network congestion, but the service still remains reliable for everyday use. This plan also includes unlimited calling and texting to Mexico and Canada, making it a great option for students and households with family across the border.

All of Visible's plans offer the same unlimited talk and text as the base plan, and the two upgraded options also add unlimited premium data and access to Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband network, which can provide significantly faster data speeds. Additionally, they both offer upgraded international benefits, such as unlimited data roaming in Mexico and Canada and 1-2 Global Pass days per month. The Visible+ Pro plan also adds calling to 85 countries and texting to 200 countries, plus smartwatch service at no extra cost.

Visible doesn't offer family plan discounts, but you can still move your family to Visible for lower-priced individual lines.

Is Visible Wireless the same as Verizon?

Verizon owns Visible Wireless, but they are not the same carrier. Visible is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) that rents access to the Verizon networks. It offers customers the same Verizon coverage, but different plans and pricing.

How I rated Visible: WhistleOut's metrics

Fact-checking Visible's claims

Here at WhistleOut, we review all carriers using the same five metrics: price, value, speed, coverage, and customer service. Each metric is evaluated on a five-star scale to calculate the carrier's overall score.

Visible's ratings were:

  •  Price: 5 out of 5
  •  Value: 5 out of 5
  •  Data speeds: 3 out of 5
  •  Coverage and network reliability: 4 out of 5
  •  Customer service: 4 out of 5

My hands-on testing allowed me to evaluate Visible Mobile's services as a regular customer. I tested the plan in rural and suburban areas to see how it performed in the real world.

Price

Visible’s base plan offers excellent value at $25/month. The plan's simplicity and lack of hidden fees (it really is just $25/month) make it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers. Unlike some carriers that offer promotional rates for a limited time, Visible’s pricing remains consistent month after month. This transparency ensures that users know exactly what they will be paying without any surprises.

Score: 5 out of 5

Value

Visible provides solid value with unlimited talk, text, and data for the price. The $25/month plan is highly competitive compared to other carriers. The inclusion of unlimited international texting and calling to Mexico and Canada on the base plan adds extra value for those with contacts in these regions.

Additionally, we think the mid-level Visible+ plan at $35/month is an even better value. It offers enhanced features such as unlimited access to Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband, faster hotspot speeds, HD video streaming, and added international benefits, catering to those who need more from their mobile plan.

Data speeds

While I never experienced speeds that were too slow to support my needs, my Visible speeds weren't always consistent. Compared to Verizon, Visible's service has slower mobile data and hotspot speeds, which is the clearest downside.

In my home, I don't get 5G service on the Verizon network, which put me at a disadvantage when testing Visible. Speeds on the LTE network with Visible were still very much usable (usually around 15Mbps); however, they didn't really compare to the 100Mbps I saw on 5G just steps away from my apartment. But that's more of a limitation of where I live and of Verizon's network, and not necessarily specific to the Visible plan I tested.

Still, despite not always having access to 5G, streaming video, downloading files, and general browsing were smooth during my testing. This makes the plan suitable for most users, but those requiring high-speed data for activities like gaming or large file transfers might miss access to Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband, which is included in the Visible+ and Visible+ Pro plans and can reach speeds exceeding 300Mbps.

Score: 3 out of 5

Coverage and network reliability

Visible provides excellent coverage through Verizon’s network, which is known for its robust performance across various areas, including rural locations. I experienced strong and reliable coverage throughout my testing period, even if it was 4G LTE rather than 5G. The signal remained consistent whether I was home in my suburban setting or in more remote areas. This makes Visible a dependable choice for users who need reliable connectivity wherever they go.

Score: 4 out of 5

Customer service

Visible offers efficient customer support through phone and online chat. My interactions with their support team were positive; I received prompt and helpful responses when I asked for assistance with making sure my phone was compatible with Visible’s services (it turns out I just needed to update it). The Visible app and website are both user-friendly, making it easy to manage the account, check usage, and make necessary adjustments.

While there is no in-person support, the digital channels provide more than adequate assistance. Additionally, Visible's online resources and community forums offer valuable support and information, further enhancing the customer service experience.

Signing up with Visible

Setting up the Visible service was straightforward. I opted for a physical SIM card, which was delivered promptly. The activation process on my phone was simple and user-friendly. However, I did encounter a hiccup due to user error: I was using a tester phone that hadn’t been updated in a while, which required spending quite some time getting the device up to date.

This experience serves as a crucial reminder to always keep your phone updated with the latest operating system to ensure a smooth setup process. Once the updates were complete, the activation went without a hitch, and I was able to start using Visible's service immediately.

Managing my plan

Managing my Visible plan was straightforward and user-friendly, thanks to the intuitive app and well-designed website. From the moment I set up my account, navigating through the various features was a breeze.

Visible mobile app

The Visible app offers a clean and simple interface, making monitoring usage, adjusting settings, and accessing support easy. The main dashboard displays essential information at a glance, including data usage, billing details, and plan features. I particularly appreciated the ability to:

  • Adjust plan settings: I could easily switch between plans or add international features if needed.
  • Manage billing and payments: Managing payment methods and viewing billing history was seamless. The app also allows for automatic payments, ensuring my plan remains active without manual intervention.
  • Access customer support: Accessing customer support via the app was efficient. The chat feature connected me with a representative quickly, and the responses were helpful and resolved my queries promptly.

Canceling my Visible plan

There's nothing too complicated here. Since Visible is a prepaid plan, all I had to do was make sure autopay was turned off and wait for the plan period to end. Of course, Visible sent me quite a few emails and text messages reminding me I could renew the plan, but that's to be expected. Once the plan period concluded, I was free to take my business to another carrier

Did I like the Visible plan?

After a month of testing, I found the Visible plan to be a solid option. Here’s a closer look at some of the plan’s key features.

Data deprioritization

One of the biggest concerns you might have with a plan like the Visible plan is that your speeds will be slowed down during network congestion. The good news is that I didn't really experience this during my tests. Granted, we never know what heavy network congestion is and when it occurs. However, I used the phone quite often and at varying times: morning, afternoon, and night.

I engaged in various data-intensive activities, such as streaming music in my car, downloading files, and watching Netflix. Despite Visible’s policy of potential data deprioritization during network congestion, I did not encounter any noticeable slowdowns.

Streaming

Streaming music and watching videos was seamless. I spent hours playing music in the background or having a good movie on and noticed very few hiccups. It helped that I never really found an area where coverage was poor around me. Even when I was in a more rural area, I  had service strong enough to watch an episode of The Bear on Hulu.

How does Visible compare to other MVNOs?

Two of Visible's biggest competitors include Mint and Tello. Here’s how Visible stacks up against them.

Visible vs. similar competitor plans

Network Verizon T-Mobile T-Mobile
Price $25-45/month $25/month$15/month*

Visible vs. Tello

Both Mint Mobile and Tello offer a single unlimited option, while Visible offers three. Tello offers 50GB of premium data before speeds are throttled; Visible's base unlimited plan only has possible deprioritization (meaning you may never be throttled at all) and its two higher-tier plans will never throttle your speeds ever. Tello's 10GB allotment of high-speed mobile hotspot is a hard cap; Visible provides unlimited hotspot data, with speeds varying from 5-15Mbps based on your plan. This makes Visible an attractive option for users who prioritize data usage. Additionally, Visible leverages Verizon’s robust network, offering extensive coverage, which can be a significant advantage depending on your location.

Bottom line: Visible is the better pick if you want unlimited everything on Verizon's network, while Tello makes more sense if you'd rather stay on T-Mobile and don't need more than 50GB of premium data.

Visible vs. Mint Mobile

Like Visible, Mint's unlimited high-speed data comes with a potential for deprioritization; the difference is that Mint guarantees 50GB of premium data before that would ever kick in. This gives Mint a slight edge over the base Visible plan, but not over the Visible+ or Visible+ Pro options—and with Visible's consistently high speeds and lower price, that edge is very, very slim.

The key difference between Visible vs. Mint is in billing. Mint Mobile sells its plans in multi-month blocks, and you must pay for the entire block upfront. Additionally, the $15/month price is an introductory rate for just three months. With Visible, you pay by the month, and its plan is always $25-45/month. That makes Visible the preferred choice, unless you prefer Mint's data amounts.

Bottom line: Visible is the better pick for most people thanks to simpler month-to-month billing and consistent pricing, while Mint is worth a look if you don't mind paying upfront and want a lower introductory rate.

Recap: Would I recommend Visible?

Yes, I recommend Visible if you need an affordable phone plan with unlimited data. My hands-on testing showed that Visible provides consistent data speeds and broad coverage, thanks to Verizon’s reliable wireless network. Features such as unlimited data and a user-friendly app make it a compelling choice.

Is it worth it to switch from Verizon to Visible?

Switching from Verizon to Visible is worth it—it's a great way to save money and keep the same wireless coverage. If you're already pleased with Verizon's service and can get by without the extras (like discounted Disney+, for example), Visible is the best choice.

As for switching from other carriers, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you have strong Verizon coverage in your area?
  • Can you work with hotspot speeds capped at 5-15Mbps?
  • Do you need unlimited data without the hassle of overages?

If you answered yes to these questions, Visible could be a great fit for you.

However, if you need faster hotspot data or higher overall speeds, you might want to look at other carriers, like Mint Mobile. Mint’s Unlimited Plan, in particular, provides more high-speed hotspot data, which is especially helpful for those working remotely.

Overall, Visible is an excellent option for those who value affordability, simplicity, and the reliability of Verizon’s network.

Visible FAQ

Is Visible really as good as Verizon?

Visible runs on Verizon's network, so coverage is identical, but the experience isn't quite the same. The base Visible plan can be deprioritized during network congestion, while Verizon postpaid customers get priority access. You also miss out on Verizon's bundled perks like Disney+ and Apple Music. In my testing, I never noticed any slowdowns.

What are the disadvantages of Visible?

Visible's main downsides are capped hotspot speeds, potential data deprioritization on the base plan, and no in-person customer support. Hotspot speeds top out between 5Mbps and 15Mbps depending on your plan, which can feel slow if you tether a laptop for work. And since Visible is online-only, you can't walk into a store when something goes wrong.

Is Visible worth switching to?

Visible is worth switching to if you want Verizon's network at close to half the price of a postpaid plan. The $25/month base plan covers everyday needs, and the $35/month Visible+ plan adds premium data and faster hotspot speeds if you need more. The main reasons to stick with postpaid are bundled perks, guaranteed priority data, and in-person support.
