Why choose AT&T?
Network
A key reason AT&T makes sense for your next cell phone plan is the carrier's robust national network. Independent coverage reliability tests consistently put AT&T's network in second place behind Verizon's; in other words, if getting good service in more places is an important concern for you, AT&T is a great choice. Check out our in-depth guide on AT&T's national coverage map for more info.
Features
AT&T's cell phone plans may not be the cheapest out there, but they include lots of awesome features you might not find in other carriers. AT&T's Unlimited Extra EL, for example, includes 75GB of premium data, a 30GB hotspot allowance, SD streaming, and Mexico and Canada talk/text/data privileges. Check out some of AT&T's most popular postpaid unlimited plans below:
Convenience
AT&T's size makes it a ubiquitous presence in American life, which can be a nice thing when you want to talk to a representative in person. With over 2,200 company-owned retail locations nationwide, chances are you're not far from an AT&T store.
AT&T store locator
Want that personal touch? AT&T's retail locations make it easy to get in-person help on your next phone or plan. Check out our cell phone store locator page to find the closest AT&T store to you.
If you'd rather take care of your bill, check data usage, or purchase a new device without visiting a store, you can do it all with the MyAT&T app.
Taking your phone to AT&T
Switching carriers can be tricky. Carriers in the U.S. rely on different cellular technologies, so a phone designed to work on one particular network won't necessarily work on another. Here are some basic rules:
- Generally, older phones sold by Verizon will not work on AT&T.
- Older phones coming from T-Mobile have a better chance of working with AT&T.
- Most newer phones are compatible across all carriers.
If you purchased your phone outright from a third-party dealer, you have a better chance of bringing it with you to AT&T. Third-party devices are frequently unlocked, so they are open to working on any network for which they are compatible. For more information, check out our guide to bringing your phone to AT&T.
