BOGO deals: The fine print
Before you jump into a buy one, get one free phone offer, it's important to know exactly what you're getting into. With most (if not all) BOGO offers, there are a few requirements that come with them, including:
- You must buy both phones on monthly installments or leasing. There are never really BOGO offers for outright phone purchases.
- At least one line must be new to the carrier (you don't qualify for a BOGO offer if both lines already have an account with the carrier).
- You need to sign up for an eligible plan. This isn't always the case, but sometimes the BOGO deals require that you sign up for a specific unlimited plan.
Finally, the most important thing to know is that your "free" phone isn't exactly free immediately. You'll be receiving monthly credits over the life of the installment or leasing plan. For example, if you get a BOGO deal from T-Mobile, you'll get your second phone for free after receiving monthly credits spread out over 24 months.
Basically what this means is that both lines need to stay with T-Mobile for the full 24 months in order to get the phone for free. If you cancel your plan early, you'll owe the remaining non-discounted balance on the phone.
