The best T-Mobile family plans

1. Experience More

T-Mobile
T-Mobile

Experience More | Family Plan

  • Unlimited Unlimited 5G & 4G LTE with Unlimited Premium Data
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot data
$170.00/mo
with Auto-Pay + Taxes and fees

T-Mobile's Experience More offers unlimited premium data and a solid amount of perks for just $42.50/line with a four-line family plan.

Reasons to buy

  • Access to T-Mobile's 5G networks
  • Unlimited premium data
  • Hotspot and international data included
  • Entertainment perks, including Netflix and Apple TV+

Reasons to avoid

  • Pricey for smaller families

Why it beats the competition

Think of T-Mobile's Experience More plan as the best of both worlds: It includes enough premium features to make it worth the $170/month cost, but it's also not so expensive that it's completely unaffordable.

Experience More includes top-tier features like unlimited premium data and a massive 60GB high-speed mobile hotspot. You'll also find impressive perks like Netflix, Apple TV+, 5GB of international roaming data, in-flight Wi-Fi, and even a free year of AAA. That's quite a bit of value for a phone plan that costs just $42.50/line with four lines.

This plan offers more data and mobile hotspot use than the average family will ever need. It also has just enough perks to keep everyone happy without including features that most customers don't necessarily need, like the free satellite phone service and yearly device upgrade perks of the Experience Beyond plan.

The bottom line

T-Mobile's Experience More plan is the best family plan option overall because it offers excellent features at a decent price. Most families don't need all the perks of the Experience Beyond plan, but they may still want some extras like a Netflix and Apple TV+ subscription. Experience More splits the difference by including just enough features to justify the price. Plus, with a four-line family plan, the cost of Experience More comes down to just $42.50/line. That's cheaper than some T-Mobile MVNO plans with less data and fewer perks, like US Mobile's Unlimited Premium plan that starts at $44/line.

Our experience with T-Mobile

Angelo Ilumba
4.5 out of 5 overall

"The absolute best way to save money with T-Mobile is by having more lines on one plan," Angelo Ilumba said in his T-Mobile review. "The more lines on the account, the cheaper the rate is per line...If you look at the price per line, they rival rates for single-line unlimited plans from MVNOs."

2. Experience Beyond

T-Mobile
T-Mobile

Experience Beyond | Family Plan

  • Unlimited Unlimited 5G & 4G LTE with Unlimited Premium Data
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot data
$215.00/mo
with Auto-Pay + Taxes and fees

The T-Mobile Experience Beyond plan offers more perks than virtually any other plan on the market. While it also includes a top-tier price, snagging it on a family plan makes it much more affordable.

Reasons to buy

  • Unlimited premium data
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot (after 250GB, speeds slow to 600Kbps)
  • Netflix, Apple TV+, and Hulu subscriptions
  • Up to 15GB of international roaming included
  • Free Starlink satellite connectivity
  • Device upgrade-ready every year

Reasons to avoid

  • Most expensive wireless plan on the market
  • Includes more features and data than the average customer needs

Why we love it

The Experience Beyond plan is the most tricked-out premium phone plan on the market. Not only is it T-Mobile's top-tier plan, but it beats the top plans available from AT&T and Verizon for the included features. Just remember that it also comes with a hefty price tag. A four-line family plan on Experience Beyond costs $53.75/line (or $215/month overall)

The plan includes truly unlimited premium data and one of the largest high-speed mobile hotspots available at 250GB, then unlimited hotspot data at 600Kbps. Plus, the plan also includes T-Mobile's Starlink connectivity for free, so dead zones are a thing of the past.

As for perks, Experience Beyond is packed with entertainment and travel features. Customers get subscriptions to Netflix, Apple TV+, Hulu, and 4K UHD streaming to use with all of them. Frequent travelers will get coverage in Canada and Mexico, up to 15GB of free international roaming data, in-flight Wi-Fi with partner airlines, and a free year of AAA.

The bottom line

The Experience Beyond plan is the best phone plan available from any carrier for power users. We think it's a fantastic plan that's filled to the brim with perks and mobile data, but we also think most customers don't need it. With the average customer only using 10–15GB of data per month, this plan offers more data than most families would possibly use. Still, there are power users who need large phone plans, and others may value the extra perks. For those customers, getting Experience Beyond for just $53.75/line on a four-line family plan is a great price.

3. Essentials Saver

T-Mobile
T-Mobile

Essentials Saver

  • Unlimited Unlimited 5G & 4G LTE with 50GB of Premium Data
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot data
$100.00/mo
with Auto-Pay - Taxes & Fees NOT included

At just $25/line, the Essentials Saver family plan is the cheapest way to score T-Mobile's excellent 5G service.

Reasons to buy

  • 50GB premium data
  • Unlimited mobile hotspot (3G speeds)
  • Unlimited international texting
  • Cheapest T-Mobile family plan

Reasons to avoid

  • No entertainment perks
  • No rate locks, so pricing can increase anytime

Why it's the best budget T-Mobile family plan

The Essentials Saver family plan is the best budget family plan because it offers enough premium data for everyone in your family at just $25/line

Essentials Saver is T-Mobile's version of a budget phone plan. It includes plenty of mobile data and an unlimited mobile hotspot at 3G speeds, but there are no other perks to speak of. If you need T-Mobile's service and don't mind having a barebones plan, Essentials Saver is a great option for saving money. At just $25/month, its features handily beat similarly priced options from carriers like Mint Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, and US Mobile.

The bottom line

The T-Mobile Essentials Saver plan is the cheapest family plan available from T-Mobile. If you need to purchase a plan directly from T-Mobile but don't want to pay for features you won't use, this is the best option for you.

T-MobIle family plan alternatives

Family plans provide the cheapest way to snag a plan directly from T-Mobile. However, they are still expensive, and T-Mobile forces customers to all purchase the same kind of line on its family plans. There is no customization, so everyone's line has to match your family's biggest data user.

If you want more customization in your plan, you should check out carriers like Mint Mobile or US Mobile. As T-Mobile MVNOs, they offer the same 4G and 5G coverage as T-Mobile, but generally at much lower costs. Plus, the ability to customize plans means that you only pay for what you need, potentially saving you money.

  • Mint Mobile's Modern Family plan allows you to mix and match plans to meet the needs of each person. At $30 for unlimited data, a family of four would save $50/month compared to T-Mobile's Experience More.
  • US Mobile's Unlimited Premium plan is just $35/month and guarantees a massive 100GB of premium data per line—far more than anyone will truly ever go through. Families of 3 or more lines also get a free entertainment perk of their choice, such as Netflix, Apple TV Plus, Disney Plus, and more. Compared to Experience More, a family of four would save $30/month with this plan.

We tested both of these carriers and came away with very high regard for each of them. Check out our Mint Mobile and US Mobile reviews to see if these carriers can meet your needs, or pick one of their popular unlimited plans below:

Why pick a T-Mobile family plan?

T-Mobile coverage map.
T-Mobile's coverage map.

T-Mobile offers the nation's largest 5G network by covering 51% of the nation. If you want the fastest speeds overall with wide-ranging high-speed coverage, T-Mobile is the best option. During our testing of T-Mobile's network, our experts saw average 5G data speeds around 174Mbps, but we've seen speeds up to 600Mbps in areas with access to T-Mobile's 5G UC network.

The network also supports data-intensive tasks like mobile gaming or HD streaming. One of our experts, a longtime T-Mobile customer, reported, "I never have speed issues when playing games. The graphics are smooth, and there is no lag.

T-Mobile also offers some of the best perks of any major carrier. Unlike Verizon, T-Mobile includes things like streaming-service memberships directly with its plans, at no extra charge. Customers can also find other perks like free international roaming, in-flight Wi-Fi, satellite coverage, and early device upgrades as a standard part of T-Mobile's premium plans

HOW TO EVALUATE
A family PLAN

T-Mobile requires all members of a family plan to use the same kind of line. That means whatever plan you pick needs to meet the needs of all your family members. Here are some things to keep in mind when picking the right plan for you.

What to look for

  • How much unlimited data do I need?
T-Mobile's postpaid plans all offer unlimited data. However, it's not the same unlimited experience with all three plans. Only Experience Beyond and Experience More offer truly unlimited premium data. The Essentials plan includes 50GB of premium data, then potentially slower speeds after. If you're a heavy data user, you may need to opt for a plan with premium unlimited data. If you're unsure how much data you need, be sure to read our mobile data usage guide to help determine the most practical plan for your data habits.
  • Can I get by with fewer perks?
T-Mobile offers more standard perks with its plans than AT&T and Verizon. You'll find streaming subscriptions, satellite connectivity, travel perks, and even early device upgrades depending on which plan you want. Just keep in mind that more perks will mean a higher price.

What to avoid

  • Unlimited data for the sake of unlimited data.
Most people don't need unlimited premium data, especially if they have access to reliable high-speed Wi-Fi. The average American only uses around 10–15GB of data per month, meaning that T-Mobile's plans offer far more than a normal person would use. Don't be fooled into purchasing the Experience More or Experience Beyond plan just because they have unlimited premium data. Your needs can probably be met with T-Mobile's Essentials plan or even a limited data plan from a prepaid carrier for a much lower price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does T-Mobile have a $100 family plan?

Yes, a four-line family plan of T-Mobile's Essentials lines is $100/month.

What is T-Mobile FamilyMode?

How many lines can you have on a T-Mobile family plan?

Most of T-Mobile's plans allow up to 12 family members on one plan. However, family plans with over five members must visit a T-Mobile store and go through a credit check to get service.

Do I have to upgrade my T-Mobile family plan?

How we picked the best family plans from T-Mobile

Each of our plan picks is underpinned by extensive first-hand testing and review of T-Mobile's features and performance. Our team evaluates phone plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it both to other plans from the same carrier, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we recommend that you not overpay for data that you won't use.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of each carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G networks determines your reception and service. Particularly in the case of 5G, some carriers offer far more robust coverage than others, which affects how their phone plans perform in different parts of the country.
  • Plan extras & perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our mobile experts have been longtime customers of T-Mobile who have tested the network extensively. In addition to running speed tests, tethering to the hotspot, and analyzing coverage reliability, we also leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate plan options, cost, and inclusions. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, premium data allowances, and mobile hotspot allocations. After our hands-on testing and extensive research, we picked the best plans we feel meet the needs of most people.
