Go Talk Wireless is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that runs on T-Mobile's network. As a smaller carrier, Go Talk Wireless takes a unique security-first approach while providing reasonably-priced plans.

While no unlimited-data plan is available, a robust security suite makes this MVNO a compelling choice. You'll find several data plans, each with a free VPN (virtual private network), anti-phishing tools, and identity theft protection.

But is this the right mobile service provider for your needs? Find out in our hands-on Go Talk Wireless review.

Go Talk Wireless Plans

GoTalk Wireless Review - SIM Card on desk

Go Talk Wireless offers three phone plans: A $30/month 5GB plan, a $40/month 8GB package, and its largest $50/month 10GB tier. When first signing up, there are some great Go Talk Wireless deals, like a competitive 50% discount on your first three months of service. Notably, there's no unlimited data option, although you enjoy unlimited talk and text.

In our experience, 8GB or 10GB of premium data should be fine for most folks, including heavy data users—remember that Wi-Fi is your friend. During my hands-on testing using a Go Talk Wireless plan as my daily driver for a month, I was never in danger of exceeding my monthly data allowance. Whether you're a high, moderate, or low data user, Go Talk has you covered.

What we like: Excellent 5G coverage

GoTalk Wireless Review - Internet Speed Test on Go Talk Wireless

Powered by T-Mobile, Go Talk Wireless boasts best-in-class 5G coverage. When compared with internet speed tests from Mint Mobile and AT&T in the same area, Go Talk Wireless delivered blazing-fast mobile data.

What we like: Free VPN

GoTalk Wireless Review - Free VPN from GoTalk Wireless

One of the best Go Talk Wireless perks is a free VPN for mobile devices and desktop apps which comes standard with data plans. I was impressed with its performance on my OnePlus 10 Pro Android handset and Lenovo ThinkPad Windows 10 laptop. There's Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS support.

What we like: Outstanding security features

Go Talk Wireless is a great choice for security buffs. Aside from a virtual private network, Go Talk Wireless offers anti-phishing tools such as three-factor authentication account security (3FA), data privacy, and even Yubikey support for hardware security authentication. There's even a promise never to share or sell your customer data.

What we like: User-friendly app

Carrier mobile apps are often basic and challenging to navigate. However, I found Go Talk's app a breeze. Additionally, it sports useful features like a simple to enable VPN instead of just the standard mobile data usage dashboard. While there's a clear emphasis on security, Go Talk Wireless maintains user-friendly software.

What could be improved: No unlimited plan

Unfortunately, Go Talk Wireless doesn't offer an unlimited data plan at the time of writing. Its highest data package is 10GB, enough for modest music streaming, video watching, and checking email using mobile data. Still, an unlimited plan would be nice.

What could be improved: Middling prices

Admittedly, Go Talk Wireless prices aren't the cheapest. For the price of its 10GB data plan, you could get an unlimited plan with other MVNOs. However, factoring in the free VPN makes Go Talk's post-promotional prices more competitive. Additionally, Go Talk promises never to sell or share customer data, and the slightly higher costs are well worth it for this peace of mind.

What could be improved: Doesn't sell phones

Like most MVNOs and major carriers, Go Talk Wireless lets you bring your own device (BYOD). Simply activate an eSIM or pop in a SIM card to get started. However, Go Talk Wireless doesn't sell phones, whereas most other mobile service providers do. Therefore, you'll need to purchase an unlocked phone or unlock your device to use it with Go Talk.

Go Talk Wireless Coverage

Since Go Talk Wireless is a T-Mobile MVNO, you'll appreciate the largest nationwide 5G footprint. In my testing, I was almost connected to a 5G network.

While T-Mobile, and therefore Go Talk Wireless, boasts a best-in-class 5G network, its 4G LTE coverage trails the pack. Nevertheless, I experienced solid 4G LTE support, even while traveling to more rural areas of North Carolina (my home state).

Check out T-Mobile's coverage below to get a sense of Go Talk's coverage in your area.

Go Talk Wireless vs. Competitors

After looking at what we like and areas for improvement, let's dive into how Go Talk Wireless stacks up against the competition. First, we'll compare Go Talk to its parent carrier, T-Mobile.

Go Talk vs. T-Mobile

T-Mobile edges out Go Talk Wireless in nearly every category except for price. Both mobile service providers offer great 4G LTE and 5G service. The Un-carrier gets you high deprioritization thresholds, including excellent unlimited data plans, exciting entertainment perks, and generous mobile hotspot allowances. Although Go Talk lacks these amenities, its superb security features, like a simple-to-set-up VPN, make it a good option for security-minded buyers.

Go Talk vs. other MVNOs

Comparing a big vs. small carrier is an apples to oranges match up, so let's pit Go Talk Wireless against its rival MVNOs.

Go Talk vs. Mint Mobile

Mint Mobile is one of the most popular cheap MVNO options thanks to its affordable plans, including one of the best unlimited data packages on the market. You can get unlimited data for as little as $30/month with Mint Mobile. By contrast, 10GB with Go Talk Wireless sets you back $50/month regular price ($25/month during an introductory promotional period).

However, you'll need to pay for 12 months of service upfront for Mint's best possible pricing. Additionally, you'll miss out on perks like a VPN and privacy features. We think Mint Mobile is a better choice for most folks, but Go Talk is still great for security enthusiasts.

Go Talk vs. US Mobile

US Mobile is a big little carrier, going toe-to-toe with major carriers like Verizon. With US Mobile, you'll get access to all three major networks, a pair of unlimited plans, and perks starting with three lines of service. Of course, Go Talk offers a virtual private network, ID protection, and extremely useful security benefits. US Mobile is a better option for the average person seeking unlimited data and entertainment perks. Nevertheless, Go Talk is solid for privacy-minded people.

Go Talk Wireless vs. Metro by T-Mobile

Metro by T-Mobile has three prepaid unlimited plans to pick from, starting at just $40/month. Each of its plans offers perks and all three feature ScamShield for protection against spam calls. Go Talk Wireless doesn't deliver the high deprioritization thresholds that Metro by T-Mobile does. Still, we recommend Go Talk because of its free VPN and promise not to sell customer data.

Bringing Your Own Phone to Go Talk Wireless

Unlike many other MVNOs, Go Talk Wireless doesn't sell mobile devices, so you can’t get a new phone when switching. Instead, you'll need to bring your own phone. Simply purchase an unlocked phone or get your current phone unlocked. Then, either activate an eSIM or pop in a physical SIM card.

Recap: Is Go Talk Wireless Right for You?

Ultimately, Go Talk Wireless is a great T-Mobile MVNO. I enjoyed its blisteringly-fast 5G connectivity, user-friendly VPN, and security features, including ID protection. While the monthly cost is a bit higher than other carriers for less data, it's a worthwhile trade-off considering the security features and data security.

Here's what you get by going with Go Talk:

  • Choice of three data plans
  • Free VPN for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android
  • Outstanding 5G network
  • Excellent customer service
  • Anti-phishing tools, ID theft protection, 3FA, and Yubikey support
  • Promise not to sell your customer data

If you're serious about security, Go Talk Wireless is a stellar choice. Factoring in the cost of a VPN alone makes Go Talk a great value alternative to paying big carrier prices.
