You can find excellent coverage no matter if you're purchasing a plan directly from a major carrier or one of the popular MVNOs that offer the same service.

Our coverage analysis has shown that T-Mobile has the best coverage in Ohio, with its 5G network covering 96.7% of the state.

The bottom line: T-Mobile has the best coverage in Ohio

The best coverage in Ohio is from T-Mobile. Its 5G network covers 96.70% of the state with speeds up to 628Mbps. The 4G LTE network is also respectable, blanketing 96.35% of the state with coverage. T-Mobile offers some of the most popular plans on the market, with many packed with perks like streaming services, international data, and satellite coverage.

AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon all have strong cellular networks that cover nearly every corner of Ohio. With most parts of the state developed, Ohio is lucky enough to have very few areas with coverage gaps.

If you live near Ohio's cities and suburbs like Cleveland or Cincinnati, you'll get fast and reliable coverage no matter what network you choose. On the other hand, there are still coverage gaps in rural areas, mostly located near the southern areas of the state, near the West Virginia border, and within the Wayne National Forest.

Why it's important to pick the right coverage

Picking the right wireless coverage in Ohio is crucial as it guarantees phone connectivity across the state. Whether you're eating chili in Cincinnati, shopping in downtown Cleveland, or exploring the Amish country of Holmes County, you need a strong signal that will keep you connected. Reliable coverage ensures you stay in touch with friends and family, can access navigation apps, and have a lifeline during emergencies. Plus, opting for the carrier with the strongest coverage where you spend most of your time helps you avoid frustrating dead zones and dropped calls, ensuring a smooth mobile experience when you don't have access to Wi-Fi

T-Mobile 96.35% 96.7%
AT&T 99.9% 93.69%
Verizon 96.7% 88.08% View Plan

With all three major networks offering widespread 5G service in Ohio, T-Mobile's 96.7% 5G network coverage makes it the best carrier in the state. While AT&T and Verizon follow closely behind with 93.69% and 88.08% respectively, T-Mobile is the best choice for customers who value faster data speeds

On the other hand, if you spend a lot of time in rural areas or exploring remote sections of the state, the 4G LTE network is still important. Its signals can travel farther than 5G, so while it may not be as fast, it's still great for connectivity. AT&T offers the best 4G LTE network by covering 99.9% of the state. That's virtually everywhere, but don't forget that Verizon and T-Mobile also have excellent 4G LTE coverage. At 96.35% and 96.7% respectively, AT&T only offers a better signal in the most remote areas.

Verizon network coverage in Ohio

Verizon's 5G network offers a respectable 88.08% coverage area. While it shouldn't be anyone's top choice for 5G coverage, it does offer an excellent 4G LTE network that covers 96.7% of the state. Plus, for frequent domestic travelers, Verizon also offers the largest 4G LTE network in the nation.

To determine how strong Big Red's 4G LTE and 5G coverage is in your part of Ohio, use the interactive Verizon coverage map below and zoom into your neighborhood. You can then toggle between 4G and 5G coverage.

Best Verizon phone plan

We recommend the Unlimited Plus plan for its outstanding features. The plan offers unlimited premium data, 30GB of dedicated high-speed mobile hotspot data, and access to discounted rates on streaming services like the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN Select bundle, Apple Music, and more. Verizon's perks cost just $10/each per month, so you can save a pretty penny on all kinds of excellent features from streaming perks to a 100GB mobile hotspot.

While testing Verizon's service, we clocked their 5G UW network at over 800Mbps (the fastest mobile data speeds we've ever seen). This means you can stream all of those discounted Disney+ shows in 4K with no issues.

Best phone plans on Verizon's network

You don't have to pay Verizon's expensive prices for its coverage. Instead, consider switching to a Verizon MVNO. MVNOs offer identical coverage to the larger players but don't maintain or operate their own towers, making them a cheaper alternative to Verizon.

Our favorite Verizon MVNO is Visible, which Verizon actually owns. The base-level Visible plan costs $25/month and offers unlimited 5G data (subject to deprioritization) and a truly unlimited mobile hotspot (with speeds capped at 5Mbps). That's an incredible price for truly unlimited data and mobile hotspot. We tested Visible's service and were pleased that the signal remained consistent, whether in a suburban setting or more remote areas.

US Mobile is also our top pick for an AT&T alternative, but remember that it offers service on all three networks, including Verizon. By picking the US Mobile Unlimited Premium plan, you automatically gain access to the carrier's TelePortal feature for free, which allows you to switch networks anytime you want. You can start with Verizon, then port to AT&T or T-Mobile if you travel to an area where Verizon isn't strong. The plan costs $44/month and includes unlimited talk, unlimited text, 100GB of high-speed data, and 50GB of dedicated hotspot data.

5G and 4G LTE network speeds in Ohio

Your network speed will help determine your overall wireless experience. In general, the faster your speed, the better your device and apps work.

Comparing the 5G speeds of the major carriers, T-Mobile offers the fastest average speeds with 238.3Mbps. This is due to the carrier's massive 5G footprint that offers widespread coverage. That said, Verizon technically has faster speeds in some areas. While T-Mobile has the largest 5G network, much of it depends on low-band frequencies. Those bands travel farther distances but offer lower speeds. Verizon has the smallest 5G network, but uses ultra-wideband signals, which are incredibly fast. During our testing, we've seen download speeds of over 800Mbps from Verizon's towers.

As for 4G speeds, you may see download speeds around 100Mbps or less from all three major carriers. However, remember that the benefit of 4G LTE is widespread coverage from signals that can travel for miles, not that 4G gives super fast speeds.

Still unsure which network to choose? Try an eSIM free trial

If you still can't pick a network, you should consider testing all the networks through an eSIM free trial. Both US Mobile and Visible offer free temporary trials of their networks. While you can't treat these offers as a replacement phone plan, they should give you enough time to decide which network you can most rely on.

FAQs
The fastest data speeds in Ohio are offered by Verizon's 5G network. While it has the smallest coverage area, most of its towers provide high-speed ultra-wideband signals, which is the fastest 5G connectivity type.
